Small Conference Game of the Day – December 10

Green Bay at Eastern Michigan

Tonight we head east…well at least to Eastern Michigan.  The SCGD brings us to Ypsilanti, Michigan as the Eastern Michigan Eagles out of the Mid-American Conference host the Horizon League’s Green Bay Phoenix.  The game tips off tonight at 7:00 PM Eastern with live streaming at mac-sports.com.

Eastern Michigan enters tonight’s game with a 5-3 record, though their best win was against Cleveland State.  Eastern’s three losses were to Kentucky, UMass and Purdue, with the Purdue loss only having been by 5 points.  The Eagles have been led so far by Karrington Ward, a juco transfer who has been lighting it up, averaging 16.5 points and 6.5 rebounds, both of which lead the team.  This team in fact thrives on transfers, including former Arkansas forward Glenn Bryant, former Syracuse center Da’Shonte Riley and former Wyoming wingman Daylen Harrison.

The Eagles will be hosting the team that has shown itself so far to be the best in the Horizon League, the Green Bay Phoenix.  Green Bay is coming off a huge win on Saturday over the Virginia Cavaliers.  They also gave the #4 ranked Wisconsin Badgers their toughest game of the season to date, losing 69-66.  Green Bay’s only other loss this season was in the semifinals of the Great Alaska Shootout, falling 76-64 to Harvard.  The Phoenix are led by Keifer Sykes, a junior guard who is averaging 22.6 points and 5 assists per game so far.  Also keep a close eye on Alec Brown, a 7-1 senior center who is averaging 11.4 points and 5.6 boards so far.  Brown seriously considered entering the NBA draft after last season, but opted to return for his senior year.  The combination of Sykes and Brown, together with the likes of Greg Mays (11.4 ppg, 5.7 rpg), Carrington Love (10.4ppg) and Jordan Fouse (8.6 rpg), make Green Bay a very dangerous team with a chance to make noise all season long.
