Under The Radar Game of the Day: Stony Brook at UMBC

Stony Brook (17-4, 5-1 AE) at UMBC (13-9, 5-2 AE) – 7:00 PM EST (ESPN+)

Tonight’s UTR Game of the Day takes us to Baltimore where the Retrievers of UMBC will play host to the Stony Brook Seawolves in a pivotal America East matchup. UMBC has improved over the course of the season where they started 9-9 overall (albeit with 3 non-D1 wins) and a very pedestrian 1-2 conference record that included losses at Hartford and UMass-Lowell. They have recently won four straight games (including a game-winning 3 by Ricky Council II to beat Albany at home) and was highlighted by a decisive 74-61 victory on the road against a Vermont team that was unbeaten in America East conference play. Joe Sherburne leads the Retrievers with 14.4 PPG and 2.9 APG.

Stony Brook is coming off of a tough home loss to Vermont where they lost by 21; they were the last of the unbeaten teams in conference play after winning five straight games in the America East. (Fun fact coming out of this game – Vermont had three brothers (Robin, Ernie and Everett Duncan) start a game for the first time in D-1 basketball since Villanova against Colgate back in February 1977!) Out of conference, they had quality wins at South Carolina and at Rhode Island with only a few blips on the radar. Akwasi Yeboah leads the Seawolves with 17.4 PPG and 7.0 RPG.
