We teased a Long Island matchup between LIU-Brooklyn and Stony Brook as an UTR Game of the Day last week, but we now have the main event between the Hofstra Pride and the Stony Brook Seawolves for tonight. Hofstra comes into tonight’s game with a 5-game winning streak that includes three wins against MAAC foes (including pre-season favorite Rider). Tareq Coburn had a double-double (22 points, 10 rebounds) in Hofstra’s 80-50 win against Manhattan in their last outing.
Stony Brook comes into tonight’s Battle for Long Island with a modest two-game winning streak following a surprising loss at Brown. They are coming off back-to-back wins at home against LIU-Brooklyn and Delaware in a pair of closely contested games. Akwasi Yeboah had 24 points against the Blackbirds and 25 points against the Blue Hens, respectively.
One final bit of trivia (with credit to Chad Sherwood) – the top two teams in the America East went a combined 5-0 against the Atlantic 10 this season. Stony Brook won at GW and at Rhode Island; Vermont won at GW, George Mason and at home against St. Bonaventure.
