Welcome to another edition of the Championship Week Conference Tournament Video Notebook. On this edition, David and I recap all of Friday night’s action including taking a look at our first automatic bid winner, Harvard, and reviewing exciting action in the Big South, Ohio Valley and more. We update the Survival Board (below) and preview a very busy Saturday (Viewing Guide below as well). Also, be sure to check out today’s final regular season edition of the Small Conference Game of the Day right below the video!
Small Conference Game of the Day
Today is the final day of regular season play for all of the “small conferences” other than Tuesday night’s mostly meaningless game between Penn and Princeton. As a result, the SCGD is back for one final time this season as we feature this evening’s 8:30PM Eastern game when Texas State travels to Troy (no TV). This game, while not part of a conference tournament, will have the same force and effect as one — the winner will receive the eighth and final spot in the Sun Belt conference tournament and the loser’s season will be over.
Texas State enters tonight’s game at 4-13 in conference and 8-22 overall. The Bobcats have been somewhat disappointing in their first season of Sun Belt play, though they can certainly make up for that with a win tonight and moving forward into the tournament. Troy is currently 5-12 in conference and 10-19 overall. The Trojans (barring what would surely be the greatest story in the history of college athletics) are fated for 20 losses this season. However, they want to stave of that 20th as long as possible. They will certainly be favored at home tonight, but it is (as David Griggs would say) “lose and you’re screwed” time in Troy.
With this final entry of the SCGD, I would like to personally take a moment to thank everyone for another great season. The SCGD will be returning in full force next year..but before we even get there, don’t forget to tune in starting March 18 for the CIT Game of the Day! Happy March Madness!!!
