Delaware State at Delaware, 12:00 PM Eastern, live streaming at bluehens.com
The Battle of Delaware? Battle of the First State? First State Braggin’ Rights? The last of these names is the closest thing the matchup between the only two Division I schools in the state of Delaware has to a name for their rivalry. It definitely needs some work, so if you have an suggestions, feel free to toss them out in our forums and we will work diligently to get the name out there!
The Hornets of Delaware State enter the 15th meeting between these two schools with a record of 3-4, including a huge road win last week at Wake Forest*. They followed that win up with a trip to Hawaii, where the team was probably more interested in sun and surf than in playing, as the Rainbow Warriors knocked them off by 15. Kendall Gray did play well, however, posting a double-double for the third straight game. He will have to play well again this afternoon if the Hornets want to get back in the winning column.
The Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens are winless in 6 games so far this season, including road losses to Liberty, Cal Poly and Bakersfield. It is clear that this is not the same Delaware team that won 25 games overall and took the CAA regular season and conference tournament titles last year. Cazmon Hayes has been leading the Blues Hens so far this year, having scored in double figures in all six games. Delaware will need to get him some help if they want to win today.
*Delaware holds an 11-3 all-time lead in the series.
