Under the Radar Game of the Day: Montana at Weber State, 9:00 PM Eastern, KJZZ-TV (Utah), watchbigsky.com
Eight Under the Radar conferences will conclude their regular season play today, but our UTR Game of the Day comes from one that still has a week left. It is, of course, the game we have been waiting for all season in the Big Sky as Montana and Weber State meet for their only regular season matchup. The winner of this game will need to win only one of their two games next week to lock up the conference regular season title and the right to host the conference tournament on their home court the right to wear white for every game in Reno during the conference tournament (can you tell we preferred the old format for the Big Sky tournament?).
Montana enters play today with a record of 18-8 overall and 13-2 in Big Sky play. They are led by senior Martin Breunig. Breunig has scored in double-digits in all but one Big Sky game so far this season and has 8 double-doubles in conference play. Also keep an eye on Walter Wright, who is coming off of a career high 29 point effort last time out against Idaho State. Wright has had 10 or more assists three times already this season. If Breunig and Wright continue to play as well as they have all season, the Grizzlies could not only score the road win tonight, but will also be the favorites to win in Reno in two weeks.
Weber State enters play tonight with a record of 21-7 overall and 13-2 in the Big Sky. The Wildcats have been led all season by Joel Bolomboy, who has NBA potential and scored a career high 34 points three games back against Southern Utah, not to mention the fact that he has been over 20 rebounds in a game multiple times this season. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, Bolomboy suffered a bone bruise in his knee last week and is listed as being “out indefinitely”. Without him in the lineup, picking up the win tonight over the Grizzlies, despite being at home, will be very difficult. Weber State did win earlier this week without him, led by a double-double from Kyndahl Hill. However, if they want to cut down the nets in Reno and advance to the Big Dance, the Wildcats better hope that Bolomboy is able to play by the time the Big Sky tournament starts.
