Stony Brook (10-6, 1-0) at Vermont (10-5, 0-0) – 7:00 PM EST (ESPN+)
Tonight’s UTR Game of the Day takes us to Burlington, Vermont for a matchup of the top two teams in the America East Conference between the hometown Vermont Catamounts and the Stony Brook Seawolves. Stony Brook had a bit of a swoon in late November with their toughest road games of the year – they had losses against CAA foes Delaware and Hofstra along with power conference foes Providence and Virginia. The Seawolves are now on a 3-game winning streak, the latest being a conference-opening 21-point win at Maine. Elijah Olaniyi leads the Seawolves with a scoring average of over 18 points a game.
Vermont got off to a hot start this season with wins at St. Bonaventure and St. John’s, fueling speculation that they could piece together an at-large NCAA-caliber profile. The Catamounts then lost five of eight games – losing to both power conference teams (Virginia and Cincinnati) and UTR teams like Rider, Yale and UNC-Greensboro. The Catamounts finished noncon play with a 3-game winning streak heading into tonight’s conference opener. Anthony Lamb leads Vermont with 17.0 PPG and 7.8 RPG.
