Boston University (13-10, 7-3) at Army-West Point (11-10, 6-4) – 7:00 PM EST (PLN)
Tonight’s UTR Game of the Day takes us to the banks of the Hudson River for a matchup of Patriot League Contenders – the Boston University Terriers and the surprising Army Black Knights. Army has been one of the better stories in the month of January thanks to a six-game winning streak that suddenly has them in a three-way tie for fourth place with Navy and American. Tommy Funk had a career-high 33 points for Army in their 80-79 win at Lehigh – this is now the program’s longest winning streak in Patriot League play.
Boston University is a full game ahead of Army in the standings, but are only one full game behind Colgate for the overall lead and a half-game ahead of third-place Lafayette. The Terriers are “only” on a three-game winning streak of their own right now with wins against Loyola-Maryland at home and Holy Cross and Bucknell on the road. Max Mahoney leads BU with 15.5 points a game and 7.7 rebounds a game.
And since it is Rivalry Week, we would be remiss if we did not congratulate BU on a hard-fought win over BC in their Beanpot opener for hockey. Their championship game will be next Monday against Northeastern. These historic rivals are only eight miles apart and have never met in the NCAA Tournament.
