Air Force at Colorado State, 10:00 PM Eastern, CBS Sports Network
The Mountain West Conference is considered by us here at HoopsHD to be a league that regularly puts multiple teams into the NCAA Tournament and thus *not* Under the Radar. However, it also has the unique distinction of three members (Air Force, Colorado State and Wyoming) also being part of a second conference that we do cover during our Under the Radar podcasts. Of course, that is the Front Range Conference, one of our favorite mythical conferences of all time. Tonight, the Colorado State Rams have a chance to wrap up the 2020-21 Front Range championship with a home win over rival Air Force.
Colorado State is 15–4 overall, 12-3 in MWC play and 3-0 in Front Range games. The Rams are led by David Roddy who is averaging 16.1 points and 9.3 rebounds. He is joined by Isaiah Stevens, at 15.1 points and 5.8 assists per game. The Air Force Falcons are currently 5-18 overall, 2-16 in the MWC and 1-2 in Front Range play. They are led by A.J. Walker’s 15.7 points per game.
The overall records may clearly favor Colorado State. A NET of 45, compared to Air Force’s 317, as of Sunday’s ratings may also favor Colorado State. However, records and metrics have to be thrown out the door when rivals match up head-to-head. Especially, as Air Force will be trying to prevent the Rams from cutting down the mythical nets and winning the mythical automatic bid that comes with the mythical Front Range Championship!!!
QUESTIONS/COMMENTS FROM DAVID:
-Chad, for starters, GREAT SELECTION!! I normally dislike most of everything you do on this site, but this I approve of!!
-My question relates to how the mythical conference tournament and mythical auto-bid will work?? We’ve seen other conferences, particularly the Horizon League, use mythical methods to seed their conference tournament due to such an imbalanced schedule (which…makes this selection for UTR GOTD all the more fitting!). Has the Front Range’s mythical SID said anything about how this mythical tournament will work??
