Tonight’s UTR Game of the Day heads south to Corpus Christi, Texas for a pivotal Southland Conference matchup between the McNeese Cowboys and the hometown Islanders. This was a game that TAMU-CC won last year and ruined a potentially perfect season in the Southland for McNeese. This year, they come in having won seven of their last eight games; only a loss to Houston Christian kept the Islanders from potentially coming in on an eight-game winning streak.
Overall, McNeese has won ten straight games and is on a roll with conference play about half over. Their best win in nonconference play was a 68-61 win over North Texas, but realistically the Cowboys will need to win the Southland Conference Tournament (on their homecourt) to be assured of a repeat trip to the NCAA Tournament this year. Quadir Copeland led McNeese with 21 points in their last game – a 30-point road win against a UTRGV team that gave Wisconsin a scare during the buy game portion of the regular season.
