Each panelist submitted a list of their top 55 teams, regardless of conference. The teams were then cross-country scored against each other and a bracket put together. The end of the regular season means that it is time to recognize the best players/coaches in college basketball this season. HoopsHD’s Jon Teitel has reviewed all of the numbers and is ready to announce his picks for the 5 best players from each conference based on their all-around stats. Players are listed in a traditional 5-position lineup (G-G-F-F-C) whenever possible with several exceptions, plus special awards for each conference’s Player of the Year (POY), Rookie of the Year (ROY), Defensive Player of the Year (DPOY), 6th Man of the Year (6TH), and Coach of the Year (COY). Jon Teitel’s next interview subject is Hofstra cheerleader Kimberley Casey, who talked about making the dean’s list and having the NCAA tourney canceled 2 years ago.
You grew up in New York: what made you choose Hofstra? Cheerleading!
You have been cheering for almost a decade: how did you 1st get into it, and what is the best part? When I was in middle school I just randomly tried out for the team and have kept at it. The best part is the memories that I have made.
What do you think the role of a college cheerleader is today, and how has it changed over time? It has always been about being an ambassador for our sport, but the competitive aspect has definitely increased over time. My teammates and I work really hard to improve our overall school spirit.
You are double-majoring in Public Relations/Psychology: why did you pick those subjects, and what do you hope to do after graduating? The post-graduate plan is law school. I chose psychology because I am interested in how the mind works and I can do a lot of things with a PR degree as well: as you can tell I am interested in many different areas.
You made the dean’s list last semester: how do you balance your work on the court with your work in the classroom? Our team is very big on academics and we have study groups for specific majors.
2 years ago your school won the CAA tourney only to learn a couple of days later that the NCAA tourney: what kind of emotions do you recall from that rollercoaster of a week? It was heartbreaking for our seniors to work so hard and then have it taken away…but at least we had another chance this year.
What is the atmosphere like on campus this week now that the conference tournament is here (especially since the Pride are the #3 seed)? Our home games this year were awesome with a lot of great energy, and we had many fans make the trip to DC.
How does your school decide who gets to go to DC, and what does it mean to you to see your group doing their thing in front of a national TV audience? Everyone wants to come so it is mostly based on availability. We love performing, especially as a team, so this is a great opportunity to show our skills in a new place.
Does your squad have anything extra-special planned for the CAA Tournament this weekend? The games are pretty late so we are just here to support the team.

Jon Teitel’s next interview subject is Elon dancer Lindsey Rothenstein, who talked about her role as social media manager and her team’s special postseason halftime routine.
You grew up in Bethesda, MD: what made you choose Elon, and are any of your family/friends here at the tourney? I have a few family members here because it is so close to home. Elon has an incredible variety of academic programs, which was a huge draw for me. I was very interested in dancing during college and fell in love with it during tryouts.
You have been on the team for a few years: how did you 1st get involved, and what is the best part? I have always had a love for performing. Being part of something bigger than myself is the best part and I love doing it year-round.
What do you think the role of a college dancer is today, and how has it changed over time? We used to be more stuck to the sidelines for entertainment value. Recently there has been more publicity/social media about women in sports, which has reestablished us as our own program instead of simply “accessories”.
You are majoring in Political Science and double-minoring in International/Global Studies and Marketing: why did you pick those subjects, and what do you hope to do after graduating? I am very interested in politics and love learning about history so maybe I will attend business school or work in marketing.
You are 1 of the squad’s social media managers: what kind of responsibilities do you have? We promote a lot of the athletic/community events and do a lot of hard work behind the scenes. We have been able to grow our following, which helps give us a better presence and allows people to make a connection with athletics.
Elon was the only CAA team to play Duke during Coach K’s final year: did you get to go, and what was it like to be at Cameron Indoor Stadium? No: I love international affairs and got to study abroad in Florence last semester, which is another great thing about being on the dance team.
What is the atmosphere like on campus this week now that the conference tournament is here? Everyone is definitely excited: we have had a phenomenal turnout in our student section this year that is the best that I have ever seen. Our friends back home are hoping to not see us in person for a while!
How does your school decide who gets to go to DC, and what does it mean to you to see your group doing their thing in front of a national TV audience? It is amazing that Elon gives the band/cheer/dance teams the chance to attend the conference tourney. We take 12 dancers out of the 18 on our squad: it is mostly based on seniority/experience.
Does your squad have anything extra-special planned for the CAA Tournament this weekend? We have 2 members who choreographed our halftime routine and we are excited to try it out. Our team has done a great job this year and will feed off of the crowd’s energy: “Go Phoenix!”

Longwood has punched their ticket after winning the Big South. They’ve had an incredible season and are one of the more intriguing stories in all of college basketball this year. Loyola Chicago also wrapped up another Missouri Valley Championship game as they eliminate all doubts as to whether or not they belong in the tournament. We discuss that, along with the semifinal action in the Patriot League, quarterfinal action in the Summit League, America East, Colonial, and another crazy day in the Sun Belt, and we preview all of tomorrow’s action.
