NEWS AND NOTES:

-Marquette got a huge home win last night against Illinois 67-66.  The Illini weren’t quite at full strength and struggled with turning the ball over, but it’s still a big early season win for Marquette that gives both their resume and their confidence a huge boost.

-Liberty stayed with LSU for about 30 minutes and actually held a lead for much of the game, but LSU got control and pulled away down the stretch to stay unbeaten.  This isn’t a season defining win for LSU by any means, but Liberty is a good team and it’s at least a solid win for the Tigers.

-Furman and Belmont was close all throughout, but in the latter stages of the second half Furman appeared to be in control.  With less than 10 seconds to play Furman appeared to be in control, but they fouled a 3pt shooter, he drained all 3 freethrows to tie the game, and Furman could not convert on their last possession.  Belmont took that momentum into overtime and pulled out a really nice win.  As for Furman, it was a missed opportunity, but I wouldn’t exactly call this a damaging loss.  Belmont is good, they may not lose at home all season, and Furman also has a road win at Louisville on their resume.

-Buffalo picked up their first road win at North Texas in a game that they had to come from behind and win.  North Texas probably isn’t quite as good as they were a year ago, but it’s still a nice win for the Bulls against a team that will likely lose very few games at home this year.

-We thought Kansas City would be improved this year and we didn’t think Mizzou would be any good at all, but to see Kansas City totally dump-truck Mizzou was still a big surprise.  The final score was 80-66, but for much of the second half the lead was around 20 for the Roos.

-Providence got a really big early season road win at Wisconsin 63-58.  The game was not a blowout by any means, but Providence lead through most of it and was seemingly always in control.

HIGHLIGHTED GAMES:

-UMASS LOWELL AT OKLAHOMA STATE.  UMass Lowell is coming off a surprising win at Dayton that got our attention.  If they can some how follow that up with a win in this one, then they will REALLY have our attention.

-CREIGHTON AT NEBRASKA (Gavitt Tipoff Games).  It’s a rivalry game, and it’s an early season win that both teams could really use right now.  We aren’t forecasting either team to be there in March, but this game will give the winner some early season momentum.

-GEORGIA STATE AT RICHMOND.  We really like this Richmond team, but they have already suffered an early loss and are looking to rebound.  Georgia State is coming in 2-0 and looking for what should be a big resume building road win.

-HOFSTRA AT IONA.  This is an under the radar game worth keeping an eye on.  Hofstra put up a hell of a fight in their opener at Houston and followed that up with a road win at Duquesne.  Iona is 2-0 and appears to be one of the better teams in the MAAC who won’t be easy to beat at home.

-SAINT LOUIS AT MEMPHIS.  When SLU lost so many key players to injuries before the start of the season, it was kind of easy to blow them off, but they have looked good in their first two games.  Even though neither opponent was all that strong, they still blew through them.  Memphis has tons of talent, but the question is whether or not that talent can come together.  This is the first real test for either team, and it should be a good one.

-VIRGINIA AT HOUSTON.  Virginia has high expectations this year, but they are still looking to bounce back from an opening loss to Navy.  Houston also has high expectations, and while they’ve avoided an early loss so far, they’ve also struggled.  Both teams should improve as the season goes on, and this is a good early test for both of them tonight with a chance to get a nice resume building win.

-CHICAGO STATE AT LOYOLA CHICAGO.  Both teams are unbeaten!!  Both teams have won two games against D1 opponents!!  So, if we didn’t highlight this one, Chad Sherwood would have let me hear about it!  In all seriousness, Chicago State has a chance to win their biggest game in my lifetime tonight.  I don’t think that’s an overstatement.

-NORTH CAROLINA AT CHARLESTON.  An early season road game that UNC shouldn’t have too much trouble with, but they did struggle with Brown their last time out and Charleston is 3-0 on the season under new head coach Pat Kelsey.

-SETON HALL AT MICHIGAN (Gavitt Tipoff Games).  Both teams come in unbeaten, and for the most part untested, although Michigan did beat a pretty good Buffalo team in their opener.  Michigan is way up in the rankings and appears to have the superior team, but it’s a chance for Seton Hall to make a major statement early on, and perhaps pick up what would probably turn out to be one of their most impressive wins of the season.

-NEVADA AT SANTA CLARA.  Nevada is in a bit of a rebuild mode, and Santa Clara is a potential dark horse.  They already have a win against Stanford and a win tonight gets them to 3-0.

-BYU AT OREGON.  A really fun early season match-up between a BYU team that we think is a solid NCAA team, and an Oregon team that we think is a solid protected seed.  Both teams are 2-0, and both have already had a reasonably good test with BYU beating San Diego State and Oregon toppling SMU.

BUY GAMES AND OTHERS WORTH MENTIONING:

-USC @ FGCU – Interesting road game for the Trojans as Andy Enfield returns to Dunk City where he had his fantastic Sweet Sixteen run.
-Miami FL @ Florida Atlantic – Another interesting road game.  Perhaps a chance to pad the road wins on their resume?
-Howard @ Villanova – both teams unbeaten
-Wright State @ Purdue
-Gardner Webb @ Duke
-Mount Saint Mary’s @ Kentucky
-Colgate @ Cornell – worth keeping an eye on.  Cornell has won two road games and Colgate gave NC State all they wanted over the weekend
-Winthrop @ Middle Tennessee – both teams 2-0
-James Madison @ Eastern Kentucky – both teams unbeaten
-Alabama A&M @ Cincinnati
-Johnson & Wales (nonD1) @ Brown
-NJIT @ Rutgers
-Jacksonville @ UCF – both teams unbeaten
-South Alabama @ Alabama
-Murray State @ Illinois State – Murray can get to 3-0
-Alabama State @ Iowa State
-Tarleton @ Wichita State
-New Orleans @ Northwestern
-Central Connecticut @ NC State
-High Point @ Notre Dame
-American @ Georgetown – one of these teams is unbeaten and it’s not Georgetown
-NC Central @ Iowa
-North Dakota State @ Arizona – NDSU will do well in the Summit League, but they’re probably overmatched tonight

The Hoops HD Report: Nov 15th

Week 1 is in the books!!  The group looks back at some of the big games from the opening week, including Gonzaga’s blowout win against Texas and UCLA’s overtime thriller against Gonzaga.  They begin in the West Coast to where in addition to Gonzaga, some other teams in the league have racked up notable early season wins.  They run through all the major conferences, look at some of the notable performances (as well as some of the notable shortcomings) that we’ve seen this season, discuss how strong the Big Ten is and debate whether or not it’s being a little overvalued, and the great start that the Big East is off to.  All that, and more!!

And for all you radio lovers, below is an audio only version of the show…

Merit Rankings (and Bracket Projections) From The Puppet, Nov 15th

Okay, so before we go any further I want to make sure everyone knows what they are looking at.  This IS NOT a ranking of how good I believe the teams actually are, or how good I think they will be at the end of the year.  It is simply a ranking with one central question in mind “How hard was it to win the games that the teams have won?”  Nothing more.  I think Villanova is clearly better than Oakland, but Villanova hasn’t (yet) won a game that’s as difficult to win as Oakland’s win at Oklahoma State.  Very few teams have.  That’s why Oakland is ranked so far ahead of so many teams that are likely better than they are.  I also feel that going on the road and winning, even if it is against an under the radar team that isn’t all that good, is still harder to do than winning a home buy game.  When it comes to merit, winning home buy games pretty much get you none.

Right now, I go out of my way to avoid trying to speculate how good teams actually are.  I’m merely trying to measure them on merit.  It is a weird way to do it.  So far as I know, no one else does it this way.  But…it’s the way that I personally like to do it.  It gets me in the habit of evaluating teams based on how I think they should be evaluated with no bias or prejudice or assumption in play.  And, it does allow me to identify teams that are better than what I would assume a little sooner than normal each year.  So, without further ado, here are the admitted unpractical, unreliable, and inaccurate rankings after Week 1.  And…sure…why not just take a few more minutes to bracket them??

-So, this is always amusing to look at.  A First Four game between Villanova and Baylor on the #16 line with the winner taking on Duke is probably something that you will not see at the end of the year as things play out more.  You probably (well…most definitely) won’t see so many Under the Radar teams with protected seeds either.  But, as of now, after Week 1, those teams have played and won on the road, and many of the bigger programs have not.  So, if you’re trying to go strictly off of merit, then this is how it looks.

News, Notes, and Highlighted Games: Monday, Nov 15th

NEWS AND NOTES:

-And just like that…Week 1 is over.  The season really does fly by.  On to week 2!!

-I plan on having a way too early (but still fun) Merit Rankings, seedlist, and bracket posted later on today.  I say I PLAN on having that done.  Sometimes it’s hard to find time to do everything, so if it’s a little late, that’s why.

-The biggest game yesterday was between Florida State and Florida.  I still think the Noles have the talent to finish as a protected seed, but they will need to improve as the season goes on.  It was back and forth for the first 30ish minutes of the game, but Florida pulled away and got control down the stretch for the 71-55 win.  The Gators get a nice win on paper, and they win the bragging rights!

-After blowing out UMass, Yale was blown out by Seton Hall last night 80-44.

-Drake absolutely blasted South Dakota into the sun.  South Dakota isn’t a top 50ish caliber team, but they aren’t terrible either.  Drake is DAMN good.  They aren’t ranked right now, but they probably will be before the season is over.

-Minnesota, who we thought would be one of the worst P5 teams this year, is now 3-0 with a few decent wins.  They’re not great wins, but they’re far better than just winning buy games.  They knocked off Princeton in overtime last night 87-80 to win the Asheville Championship MTE.

HIGHLIGHTED GAMES:

-FURMAN AT BELMONT (***Spotlight Game***).  This is a hugely important UTR game for both teams.  Furman is unbeaten and already has a win at Louisville, which is the kind of win that can result in the selection committee taking a team even if they don’t win their conference tournament.  Belmont is another really good team that we also think might be good enough to play their way inside the bubble, so the stakes are high tonight.

-ILLINOIS AT MARQUETTE (Gavitt Tipoff Games).  Illinois clearly looks to be the superior team, but they are on the road, and teams who play early season showcase games at home often come in with a lot of energy.  Tonight will be an interesting test for the Illini and an interesting opportunity for Marquette.

-LIBERTY AT LSU.  Liberty is always one of the top UTR teams each year, and this year probably isn’t any different.  They’ve got a huge opportunity to get a quality road win that would really impress the committee if they can knock off LSU tonight.

-BUFFALO AT NORTH TEXAS.  Buffalo lost their season opener at Michigan, but this is still an outstanding team that’ looking for their first win.  Winning at North Texas certainly isn’t easy, but Buffalo is good enough to win games that aren’t easy to win.

-NAVY AT LOUISVILLE.  Navy did win at Virginia, and Louisville has an early season loss to Furman to make up for, so this one is worth keeping a bit of an eye on.

-WISCONSIN AT PROVIDENCE (Gavitt Tipoff Games).  Both teams come in at 2-0, and both are looking for an early signature win.  It’s the first real test for either team.

-OREGON STATE AT TULSA.  I still think Oregon State has some potential this year, but in order to meet it they have to be able to win road games like this.

-NORTH DAKOTA STATE AT UNLV.  Both teams come in 2-0, and it’s probably the toughest test for either of them up to this point.

-UC SANTA BARBARA AT WASHINGTON STATE.  Many are picking Wazzu as a dark horse in the Pac 12, and many (myself included) think UC Santa Barbara is one of the better UTR teams in the country this year, so this is a really interesting early season match-up.

BUY GAMES AND OTHER GAMES OF NOTE:

-Nicholls @ Baylor – both teams unbeaten
-Bowling Green @ Ohio State
-The Citadel @ Presbyterian – The Citadel is 2-0 with a win at Pitt.  If they can get to 3-0 with two true road wins, that’s a hell of a start for a team that’s normally among the worst in D1!
-Radford @ Virginia Tech
-Bryant @ Clemson
-Penn State @ UMass – a chance for Penn State to pick up a road win and remain unbeaten
-Robert Morris @ Ohio U
-Lamar @ Georgia Tech
-Prairie View A&M @ Texas Tech
-Southern Miss @ TCU
-Kansas City @ Missouri
-Northwestern State @ SMU
-Maine @ Colorado
-Alcorn State @ Gonzaga
-San Diego @ California – San Diego can pick up a road win and improve to 3-0
-Samford @ San Francisco – both teams unbeaten
-North Florida @ Arizona State
-Bethune Cookman @ Utah
-Southern Utah @ Saint Mary’s – the preseason Big Sky favorite against a really solid SMC team
-Long Beach State @ UCLA – both teams unbeaten
-San Jose State @ Stanford

Tripleheader: HoopsHD does 3 games in 3 arenas in 25 hours!

It has been a long lonely life of not attending any college basketball games in person over the past 18 months during the pandemic. Thankfully, this weekend HoopsHD’s Jon Teitel was able to break the streak in a big way by attending 3 games (Penn-George Mason, Dartmouth-Georgetown, and Michigan-Prairie View) in 3 arenas (EagleBank Arena, Capital One Arena, and Entertainment & Sports Arena) in a glorious 25-hour span from Friday night to Saturday night. He presents the following photo essay of his return to a sense of normalcy.

Penn-George Mason: After a LONG subway ride from DC to Virginia on Friday my friend Patrick picked me up and we headed to Fairfax to see my Quakers for their 1st trip to the DMV since they beat Howard back in 2019. There were not a lot of fans in attendance so we got to sit up high and be quite socially distant:

It actually seemed like a normal fan experience with the only difference being that everyone was wearing masks. The most interesting part of the game was during the national anthem: most of the Penn players/staff remained seated while Coach Steve Donahue and a couple of others stood. I have not found any news about it online (so perhaps it is a non-issue) but it certainly caught my attention:

The game itself did not go well for the good guys. Penn made 11 threes and actually had more AST than GMU…but the Patriots had a balanced scoring effort with 5 guys who each had 12+ PTS and a great interior defense that only allowed 37.1 FG% inside the arc as they cruised to an 87-66 win. Hopefully my alma mater can get back on track in the weeks ahead before beginning a brutal set of back-to-back games vs. Arkansas & Villanova 2 weeks from today.

Dartmouth-Georgetown: After sleeping off the loss it was back to work on Saturday afternoon with another Ivy League team as the Big Green were in DC to face the Hoyas. My 1st media meal of the season was a Potbelly wreck/jalapeno chips/sugar cookie: hit the spot! Dartmouth’s pregame warmup featured the team wearing “8 Against Hate” t-shirts to showcase the league’s commitment to fighting all forms of hatred:

Georgetown showed its own commitment by performing the Black national anthem while PG Dante Harris and his team stood on the court:

There was big ovation for Preseason Big East ROY Aminu Mohammed when he was introduced as part of the starting lineup. Lights are on, ball is tipped, and away we go!

1 of the other newcomers is 7’2” FR C Ryan Mutombo, son of 7’2” Georgetown legend Dikembe Mutombo, whose last game in a Georgetown uniform was more than 30 years ago when he had 16 PTS/9 REB/3 BLK in an 8-PT loss to an undefeated UNLV squad in the 1991 NCAA tourney (in Tucson!). If you thought there was a chance he would miss his son’s debut 3 decades later…think again:

The good news is that Ryan had a decent debut with his famous father in attendance, scoring 6 PTS in 11 minutes off the bench via a pair of old-fashioned 3-PT plays:

The bad news is that after he committed his 1st foul he got called over to the bench for some…individual instruction by Coach Patrick Ewing:

Apparently the mask policy is for humans only and does not apply to Jack the Bulldog:

…or the other Bulldog for that matter:

A late arrival who sat down right in front of me was former Hoya Rodney Pryor (and his newborn baby!), who finished 4th in the Big East with 18 PPG back in 2017:

Dartmouth opened up a huge lead early and was actually up by 22 PTS late in the 1st half before taking a 37-21 lead into the locker room. As you might expect in a mid-November game it was the seniors taking charge as Brendan Barry/Taurus Samuels each knocked down a pair of threes before halftime (p.s. How long do we have to wait for Ford to do an NIL with a guy named Taurus?!). However, the surprise star was FR SG Ryan Cornish (from Potomac, MD): he looks like he is 14 years old but played like a crafty veteran by making a layup/&1, a pull-up jumper, a pair of threes, and even took a charge against Kaiden Rice, proving once again the power of redheads:

After losing 4 starters from last year (Jahvon Blair/Qudus Wahab/Chudier Bile/Jamorko Pickett) it seemed like there would be no way for Georgetown to close such a large gap with such a young team, but Ewing relied heavily on his incoming freshmen by playing 5 of them (Mohammed/Mutombo/Jordan Riley/Jalin Billingsley/Tyler Beard) as part of his 9-man rotation. Mohammed got to the basket over and over including a dunk to tie it at 48-all, then Riley followed that up with a breakaway dunk to take a 50-48 lead as the crowd roared its approval. The 2 Hoya seniors (Rice/Donald Carey) each made a trio of threes, so it seemed like they had overcome some early obstacles and were ready to finish strong, but Dartmouth simply refused to throw in the towel. The final 10 minutes belonged to their 2 seniors, as Barry had a 4-PT play as part of an 18-3 run to help seal the deal, and Samuels made 4 more threes in the 2nd half to finish with a career-high 23 PTS en route to a 69-60 road upset:

The postgame interview rules do not allow as many media members this year due to social distancing so I went home/took a nap/headed to Game #3…instead of heading into the Caesars By William Hill Sportsbook that last spring became the 1st sportsbook to open inside a pro basketball arena:

Michigan-Prairie View: Continuing the “Against Hate” theme, for those of you wondering what these 2 teams were doing in DC: they were participating in the inaugural “Coaches vs. Racism” event. The purpose is to bring an end to systemic racism in sports by helping Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in a couple of ways: highlighting players who are traditionally overlooked by scouts and raising money for college tuition. I had a seriously inauspicious start to the final game of my tripleheader: no media food/drinks, my computer cord was not long enough to reach the nearest power strip in the limited media seating, and there was no electricity at all in the overflow media seating across the court. Fortunately, it was not personal and there were creative solutions available. There was no line at the concession stand for chicken tenders/fries/soda (note to the HoopsHD higher-ups: my expense report is in the mail!) and a nice guy from the IT department installed another power strip right before tip-off so all of my crises were averted. Even though DC is more than 500 miles away from Ann Arbor it appeared that around 95% of the crowd was wearing maize and blue:

You might think that Michigan is becoming a basketball school after last year’s trip to the Elite 8, but the most popular jerseys in the building were of basketball legend…Tom Brady:

Tip-off was 7’1” Hunter Dickinson vs. 6’8” Jerroda Briscoe: care to guess who won it?

The Wolverines dominated from start to finish: with a small gym that was half-full of fans who had little to boo about it was fun to clearly hear Coach Juwan Howard calling out plays from the sideline:

The loudest cheers were reserved for Dickinson, who grew up a short distance away in Alexandria, VA. He had a personal 7-0 run to start the game with a REB/tip-in, a 3 from the top of key, and a dunk. Much like Georgetown, Michigan also lost several starters from last year (Franz Wagner/Mike Smith/Isaiah Livers), but their freshman replacements looked fabulous. Caleb Houstan (3-8 3PM) almost made more threes then the entire Panther team (4-18 3PM), Moussa Diabate did a little of everything (6 PTS/8 REB/1 BLK/1 STL in 15 minutes off the bench), and Kobe Bufkin chipped in with 8 PTS/2 STL of his own. Prairie View trailed 42-23 at halftime: while they played much better in the 2nd half (including an alley-oop dunk by Jawaun Daniels) and finished with 10 STL but it did not make any difference as they ended up losing 77-49. Dickinson finished with a double-double (11 PTS/10 REB in 23 minutes), helping his team enjoy a 52-32 REB advantage, but for the 2nd straight game Michigan was mediocre from the FT line (18-30 vs. Buffalo and 17-32 vs. Prairie View). It has not cost them yet…but you will not win games in March by missing FTs.

The postgame press conference was the most interesting part of the night. 1st of all, instead of the usual practice of having 1 team go 1st and another team go 2nd, the event organizers decided to promote the unifying theme of the event by having 2 players from each team sitting at the same table:

The Wolverines are a big draw so it was a bit of a tight squeeze with a bunch of people in a tiny room, but at least everyone from the media was masked up. I got to ask Dickinson about his homecoming: he said that he had a lot of family/friends in attendance, was excited but not nervous, and that it was fun to be back in the area:

After the players finished it was time for the combo coach conference:

Since I was at an event called “Coaches vs. Racism” that was taking place just 48 hours after Seattle head coach Jim Hayford resigning for allegedly using the N-word, I was curious to get each coach’s reaction was to the recent news. Coach Howard was unaware of the incident so he was stunned when I broke the news to him and called it “heartbreaking”:

Prairie View coach Byron Smith actually faced Hayford when their 2 teams played back in 2018. He called it a “tragedy” because basketball is a unique sport that breaks down all racial barriers. He said that sometimes coaches can go too far in an attempt to make a point and that there is no place in our world for that type of language:

That is a wrap from my exciting 25 hours in DC, but check back next weekend as HoopsHD will be LIVE at the Roman Main Event to see the Wolverines yet again when they headline a 4-team field that includes Arizona/UNLV/Wichita State.

News, Notes, and Highlighted Games: Sunday, Nov 14

NEWS AND NOTES:

-Gonzaga jumped out to an early lead against Texas, and while The Longhorns did make an occasional run, it was never out of the Zag’s control.  It was a very impressive 86-74 win, and Gonzaga once again looks to be the clear #1 team, at least for now.

-Maryland got a bit of a scare from what is shaping up to be a really good Vermont team, but pulled away in the final minutes for a 68-57 win.  The win would have been huge for Vermont, but they’ve already managed what should turn out to be a good road win at Northern Iowa, and they’ve got a few more opportunities to rack up big OOC wins, so they have the chance to put together a really good NCAA Tournament resume.

There were more upsets yesterday!  At least in terms of Under the Radar teams winning on the road…

-Darmouth basically held a lead against Georgetown the entire way and ended up with a 69-60 win.  It is going to be a very long year for the Hoyas.

-UMass Lowell, who we thought would finish in the middle of the America East, went on the road and got a win at Dayton 59-58.  They certainly have our attention now.

-Wagner went into VCU and pulled out a surprising 58-44 win.  It’s been a bit of a rough start for the Atlantic Ten with UMass getting blown out by Yale, and with VCU and Dayton losing home buy games.

Duquesne also lost at home to Hofstra and Fordham fell to Manhattan, but neither of those results are particularly surprising.

-NC State avoided a near loss to Colgate, but held on to win 77-74 in a game that came down to the final couple of possessions

-USC blew it open early against Temple, but somehow the Owls came back and made it a game.  USC still held on to win 76-71, but it’s tough to say if Temple is better than we thought, or if USC just totally blew it once they had control.  Perhaps it’s a combination of both.

-UCF is off to a 2-0 start after picking up a notable road win against in-state foe Miami FL.

-Ohio U got a nice road win at Cleveland State to remain unbeaten.  Cleveland State is now 0-2, but we still think they are a good team that will make quite a bit of noise as they get a little further into their schedule.

-Shout out to Saint Thomas who picked up their first D1 win as a D1 team!  They knocked off Saint Francis Brooklyn on the road 91-73

HIGHLIGHTED GAMES:

-YALE AT SETON HALL.  Neither team has lost, and Yale has a blowout win over UMass.  They are probably overmatched today, but it could still be a fun game.

-FLORIDA STATE AT FLORIDA.  It’s a rivalry game between two likely NCAA Tournament teams.  We actually think both teams are a little underrated and undervalued right now.  This is a chance for both of them to likely pick up a resume boosting win as well as a bragging rights win.

-MINNESOTA VS PRINCETON (Asheville Championship).  Both teams come into this one unbeaten, and are coming off of wins that were somewhat surprising from the first game in this event.  We weren’t all that excited about either team coming in to the season, but one of them will leave here today 3-0 with some (at least) semi-decent wins away from home on their resume.

OTHER GAMES WORTH MENTIONING:

-EAST TENNESSEE STATE AT TENNESSEE.  This is a buy game, and it may end up looking that way by the time it’s over, but since ETSU looks like they may be able to finish near the top of the SoCon it is worth keeping somewhat of an eye on.

-SOUTH DAKOTA AT DRAKE.  Both teams come into this one after having won their opener, and Drake Is a really good team that we think can finish inside the bubble.  They may get a bit of a test from the Yotes today, though.

-SOUTH DAKOTA STATE AT STEPHEN F AUSTIN.  South Dakota State is coming off a loss to Alabama where they played really well.  It’s early, but they are one of the UTR teams that we think could make a push to land inside the bubble.  If they’re an NCAA Tournament caliber team, then this is the kind of road game that they need to be able  to win.

-WESTERN KENTUCKY VS SOUTH CAROLINA (Asheville Championship).  Both teams are coming off losses In the first round of this event that were somewhat surprising.  WKU fell to Minnesota and South Carolina lost to Princeton.  This is more of a sense of urgency game early on than it is a chance for either of them to pick up a quality win.

-MORGAN STATE AT GEORGE MASON – Both teams come in at 2-0

BUY GAMES:

-Arkansas Baptist (nonD1) @ Little Rock – Little Rock can get to 3-0
-Rhodes College (nonD1) @ UAB – UAB can get to 3-0
-TAMUCC @ Texas A&M – both teams unbeaten
-Fairfield @ Boston College – BC can get to 3-0
-Canisius @ Saint Bonaventure – Bonnies can get to 2-0
-La Sierra (nonD1) @ UC Riverside
-Drexel @ Syracuse – both teams 1-0
-Peru State (nonD1) @ Colorado State
-Texas State @ Vanderbilt
