HoopsHD Preview 10/31: Small Conference Teams

On this edition of the HoopsHD Conference Preview, we take a walk on the other side of the Red Line, and get to talking about the wonderful world of smaller conference basketball. This show really runs the gambit, all the way from the reorganized Atlantic 10 to the lower reaches of the SWAC. We touch on a variety of media darlings, including Belmont, Stony Brook, Iona, UTEP (okay, so they’re not a media darling) and Harvard. We also preview almost every conference, even the new-look WAC.

HoopsHD Preview 10/29: SEC

HHDpodsThe HoopsHD conference preview train rolls along, as we tackle the Southeastern Conference. Kentucky is obviously the big dog in this conference, and our panelists are mixed in their opinions of whether or not Florida can provide any sort of challenge for them. We also talk a bit about the second tier of SEC teams, including Tennessee, Missouri, Alabama, Arkansas, and LSU, and whether those teams are tourney-bound or not. We also muse a bit on what’s happening with some of these programs and why it seems so difficult for SEC teams outside of Kentucky and Florida to consistently put a good product on the floor.

HoopsHD Preview 10/28: Big 10 and Pac 12 (REPOST)

(NOTE: We posted the video of this podcast already, but unfortunately I screwed up and put the wrong podcast in the attachment. Here is the correct podcast, with the correct video.)

HHDpodsOn this initial edition of the HoopsHD Preview Podcast, we sit down and talk about the Pac 12 and Big Ten. On the Pac 12 front, we discuss whether Arizona really is the team to beat in the 2013-14 season, and whether they can be trusted with that responsibility. We also discuss the UCLA and USC situations, and discover a healthy amount of trepidation on the part of our west coast expert relating to both. Oregon, Cal, Arizona State, and Colorado also get some discussion, and our panelists end up picking a surprising consensus champion for the conference.

On the Big Ten front, we all agree that there seem to be four clear favorites in the conference, but there’s a lot of discussion about what order they’ll finish in. The middle of the conference also gets its due, as Iowa, Indiana, Purdue, and Illinois are all in play for tournament spots.

HoopsHD Preview 10/28: Mountain West Conference

HHDpodsWe’re back on HoopsHD for more conference previews. This time we take on the Mountain West, which sadly is a shell of its robust self last year. Did the Mountain’s “severe damage in the NCAA tournament” window close already? How will New Mexico react to the loss of Steve Alford and the hiring of Craig Neal? Is Boise State really the odds-on favorite to win the conference? Can the conference place more than three teams in the field of 68 this year?

HoopsHD Preview 10/27: Big 12

HHDpodsOn this episode of HoopsHD, Galen, David, and Hank preview the Big 12 conference. Traditionally Kansas’ playground, is this the year that someone other than the Jayhawks breaks through and wins the outright title? Is Oklahoma State really deserving of its lofty ranking? Can Kansas State avoid the seemingly unavoidable Weber Decay? Will Rick Barnes still be coaching in Austin this time next year? Lots of questions abound in this conference, and we do our best to address them, while also picking our tournament teams from the Big 12 for the 2013-14 season.

Free Live Streaming Guide: 2013-14 Edition

The 2013-14 season will feature several conferences adding free live web-streaming of all or the majority of their conference’s non-nationally televised home games.  Below is the current list of all conferences offering free streaming.  I will update this list as the season progresses if any other sources become available.  Note that I have not included espn3 streaming on this list, but it is an additional source for non-televised games, especially in many of the larger conferences.

America East: americaeast.tv
Atlantic Sun: asun.tv
Big Sky: bigskyconf.com
Big South: bigsouthsports.com
Colonial: caa.tv
Big Ten: btn2go.com
Big West: bigwest.tv
Horizon League: horizonleague.org
MAC: mac-sports.com
Mountain West: themw.com
Northeast: necfrontrow.com
Ohio Valley: ovcsports.com
Patriot League: patriotleague.org
West Coast: thew.tv

Several other conferences offer subscription based streaming packages.  In addition, the Pac 12 has free streaming available for all Pac 12 network games, including the regional ones that may not be on your local Pac 12 network channel, available through their web site (except for Comcast Xfinity customers who have to go through Comcast’s website to get these streams).

The trend here is definitely towards free live streaming video, as with the addition of the “major” conferences that have virtually all of their games televised or on espn3, we now have more than half of Division I offering free webstreaming in one form or another.
