Championship Week Notebook and Seed List Projections: Saturday, March 16th

-Here is my seed list ranking of everyone that is still playing, or that is being considered. Ole Miss helped themselves yesterday with a win over Missouri, but I don’t think that alone will push them all the way into the field. Unfortunately, beating Vanderbilt today won’t be a huge notable win for them either.

-I’m not as big on Duke as I think the committee will be, but since I’m trying to guess the committee that’s why I have them on the #1 line.

-The Atlantic Ten Tournament has been among the most exciting so far. Every opening round game came down to the wire. We had the bizarre ending in Charlotte vs Richmond, the missed last second layup in Xavier vs Saint Joseph’s, and yesterday’s quarterfinals featured an exciting game between VCU knocking off Saint Joseph’s, and another where UMass held on to beat Temple in what was a seesaw battle. Some are projecting UMass into the field, but I’m really not seeing it. I think they’ll need to win the tournament to get in, but they’re still playing and still have a chance.

-Ohio vs Akron will be interesting. Both teams are potentially dangerous teams that could win in the round of 64, but there is only room for one of them. Akron has not been the same since losing their starting point guard, but they still managed to knock off Kent State yesterday. Ohio has been somewhat disappointing , but they do return a roster that advanced to the Sweet Sixteen a year ago.

-Southern Miss just doesn’t have the wins, and teams like that are usually left out. If they don’t beat Memphis today I think they’re out, but it wouldn’t be completely shocking if they got in.

-They say it’s about a team’s profile, and Kentucky’s isn’t very good. However, I always say that one of the things on a team’s profile IS the name of the team. Other than Vanderbilt, Kentucky’s profile isn’t overly disgusting. There are certainly reasons to not take them, but there are also a few to take them, and I think they will just barely sneak in.
