Under the Radar Game of the Day – Sunday, January 4, 2015: IUPUI at Fort Wayne

IUPUI at Fort Wayne, 7:00 PM Eastern, No TV

The state of Indiana has been and continues to be the home to a lot of great basketball.  Perhaps the state’s biggest rivalry is between the Indiana Hoosiers and Purdue Boilermakers.  Yet despite the sports rivalry, the two schools jointly run several college campuses around the state.  Two such colleges are Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis (IUPUI) and Indiana University-Purdue University-Fort Wayne (IPFW or just Fort Wayne).  IUPUI and Fort Wayne’s basketballl teams meet in Fort Wayne tonight for the UTR Game of the Day.

IUPUI enters tonight’s game at 4-10 on the season, though they did score a road win at Pepperdine back on December 27.  Tonight’s game is their first Summit League game of the year.  The Jaguars have been balanced offensively this year with 9 different players having led the team in scoring in just 14 games so far.  IUPUI also holds a 27-15 all-time lead in their rivalry with Fort Wayne.  They will be looking to extend that lead tonight, but doing so will not be easy.

Fort Wayne enters the game with a record of 7-7, including 0-1 in conference play after a loss Friday at Western Illinois.  The Mastodons notably made a run to the Summit League championship game last season where they took a good North Dakota State all the way to the wire before falling.  Just like IUPUI, Fort Wayne features balanced scoring, being one of only a small handful of teams in the entire nation with five players averaging double-digits in points per game.  The Mastodons have won four straight games against IUPUI, tied for their longest winning streak in the series, and will be looking to make it their outright longest in tonight’s game.
