3-6-16-2016-Selection-Committee-Board

This is a prototype of the same board that the Selection Committee uses for the NCAA Selection process; you saw this at the end of last night’s podcast. (Click on the board to zoom in)

On the left hand side, you will see all 32 conferences with their champions listed in blue. 5 teams are guaranteed entry into the NCAA Tournament as of last night’s games; 3 more spots will be filled in tonight with the Metro Atlantic, Colonial and Southern Conference all awarding automatic bids to their respective winners.

On the second column from the left, you will see spaces marked in green for 36 at-large bids. Most of these teams will be comprised of first-ballot at-large teams as voted by our Committee; we will unveil those results after Wednesday night’s podcast. A team must receive 8 out of a possible 10 votes to be added to the At-Large board. Also take note that there are 7 spaces marked in orange; these are contingency at-larges that are guaranteed to open up once a conference is guaranteed to have its champion move from the At-Large board to the Automatic Bids board. The “real” committee will have already submitted their ballots by yesterday, but our mock committee has a deadline of Wednesday to submit ballots to our committee chairman Chad Sherwood.

On the third column from the left, you will see spaces for teams that will be marked Under Consideration for at-large bids. Teams that receive a minimum of 3 votes from the Selection Committee (but no more than 7 votes) will be added to the Under Consideration board on Wednesday night. As of today, the only teams in this column are regular-season champions in their respective conferences. Teams highlighted in green are teams that are marked as locks on our Survival Board; they are expected to be named to the At-Large board on Wednesday night. Teams highlighted in red are teams that have already been eliminated from the Survival Board; they are guaranteed entry into the NIT (see the column on the lower right hand corner). Last and certainly not least is a spot reserved for the Centenary winner that will be announced on Thursday night’s podcast; click here for more information on the coveted Centenary Award and what is in store for the winner.

On the far right-hand column, you will see a Master Seed list of teams 1-68. Once our Committee has selected the teams for the NCAA Tournament, we will begin building and scrubbing a master Seed List for all 68 teams plus any contingency teams highlighted in orange; this is reserved for any contingencies that may arise based on next Sunday’s games. This year, it’s almost a stone cold lock that we will have multiple contingencies set up based on what happens in the Sun Belt, Atlantic 10 and the American conferences.

In the meantime, be on the lookout for our final HoopsHD bracket show tonight along with our daily Championship Week video podcast! (The former will be broadcast on Hangouts On Air at about 9:30 PM EST; the latter will be broadcast on Hangouts On Air following the completion of the Gonzaga-BYU game.)
