While last night did not have a high volume of games played, there was one very noteworthy game played between Cincinnati and Iowa State at Hilton Coliseum. It was not the most visually pleasing game, but Cincinnati was able to overcome a 3-for-21 shooting performance from long range and were able to pull out a 55-54 victory and ended the Cyclones’ 37-game winning streak at home against nonconference opponents. The Bearcats outrebounded Iowa State 46-34 and ultimately led to a much-needed signature win for themselves and the American Conference.

South Carolina, Gonzaga and Florida were the only other Top 25 teams in action last night – all 3 won comfortably. Florida was hardly fazed in what was a true road game at North Florida and cruised to a 91-60 victory.

East Tennessee State survived what would have been a disastrous loss to non-DI foe Lees-McRae 85-80. Former IU player Hanner Mosquera-Perea led the Bucs with 18 points and 12 rebounds and also hit the go-ahead shot with 1:30 to play in the game.

HIGHLIGHTED GAMES

DUQUESNE vs. PITTSBURGH (ACC Network/ESPN3) – We highlight this game solely because it is “The City Game” in Pittsburgh, although it has been very one-sided for a couple of decades now.

IONA at SAINT PETER’S (MAAC) – This is the conference opener for both teams, and Iona is coming off of a championship run in the Great Alaska Shootout.

ST. JOHN’S at TULANE (ESPN News) – Pillow Fight of the Night.

ALABAMA at TEXAS (ESPNU) – This is Alabama’s first true road game, and is also a decent opportunity for Texas to right the ship after a home loss to UT-Arlington earlier this week.

NOTABLE BUY GAMES
