News, Notes, and Highlighted Games: Sunday, Feb 3rd

-THE RAMS GOT IT DONE AGAINST THE PATRIOTS YESTERDAY IN THE BIG GAME!!!  VCU knocked off George Mason

-Indiana won on the road at Michigan State.  An Indiana team that had lost seven straight, and weren’t really competitive in any of those seven losses, just went on the road and beat a team that looked like they had a chance at a #1 seed.  It was a total shock given how the two teams had been playing coming into that game.  And while it wasn’t the prettiest game, Indiana played with a ton of guts.  Every time it looked like Michigan State was about to grab momentum, they came up with big plays.  It goes without saying that this was a HUGE win for the Hoosiers.

-When the two met earlier this season, Louisville pretty much dominated North Carolina in Chapel Hill.   Yesterday, UNC pretty much dominated Louisville in Louisville.  I guess it was some sort of road win exchange agreement that they had.  Both now have a good win on the road against a likely protected seed.

-Kansas murdered Texas Tech.  The final score was 79-63, but the game wasn’t even as close as that.

-VA Tech gave a really unimpressive offensive performance at NC State and only scored 47 points.  They still blew out NC State, who only scored 24 points.  Some of this was due to good defense, but it was mostly due to bad basketball.

-LSU tripped up at home and lost their first SEC game of the year to Arkansas.  LSU had been playing with fire, but had still been managing to win until yesterday.

-Texas actually played really well at Iowa state and had a chance to pull off what would have been an amazing win, but the Cyclones held on to win in the end.  Iowa State continues to build what looks like a protected seed worthy profile.

-Ole Miss picked up a big win at Mississippi State earlier this year, which was a huge statement win at the time.  Mississippi State, who desperately needed a statement win of their own, returned the favor yesterday.  Again, this must be part of that road win exchange agreement!

-Seton Hall lost at Butler to fall to 13-9 on the year, 4-6 in the Big East, and 1-5 in their last six games with the only win being by 2 over Providence.  That’s not good.

-Oklahoma, who had been in a bit of a tailspin, is now in an even bigger tailspin.  They lost on the road to a pretty poor West Virginia team yesterday.

-Nebraska lost to a very poor Illinois team on the road yesterday.  That’s not good.  The Huskers are now just 3-8 in Big Ten play.

-What small hopes of an at-large bid that existed for San Francisco likely no longer exist.  Winning at Saint Mary’s would have at least been a decent win, but they failed to get it done.

-Auburn picked up their biggest win of the year as they blew out rivals Alabama.  All year long I’ve been ripping the Tigers, but I have to give them credit now.  They finally looked really good against a good team.

-GEORGETOWN AT VILLANOVA (Big East).  Georgetown’s NCAA Tournament hopes are still barely flickering, but they could get a huge boost if they’re able to pull thos one off on the road.  Nova is a perfect 8-0 in conference so far and could end up as a protected seed if they keep winning at the clip that they have been.

-MINNESOTA AT PURDUE (Big Ten).  These are two probable tournament teams.  Minney is looking for a big win to help them land in the top half of the bracket.  Purdue has been on a rampage lately and could end up as a protected seed before it’s all done.
