Today’s UTR Game of the Day takes us to the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase – this is a semifinal matchup between the Liberty Flames and the Rice Owls. Liberty advanced to today’s game with an 89-48 victory against Morgan State. Kyle Rode led the Flames with 17 points off the bench; nobody played more than 27 minutes in a game that was never in doubt.
While Liberty has mostly played buy games and will have their first serious test since their season-opening win against Radford, Rice has already played three notable opponents in Arkansas, Houston and UC-Santa Barbara. They actually beat the Gauchos in the Thunderdome with a 22-point comeback and a game-winning shot by Payton Moore. In their tournament opener, the Owls beat Milwaukee 75-69; Ako Adams led Rice with 18 points.
