Merrimack (5-3, 4-3 D1) at Akron (4-2, 3-2 D1) – 7:00 PM EST
Tonight’s UTR Game of the Day may be one of the better games period today, but with no TV or streaming, you’ll need a ticket to see it live. The Warriors of Merrimack hit the road to take on the Akron Zips. Akron finished 3-1 in the round-robin Global Sports Shootout that included NC Central, USC-Upstate and Youngstown State before a close loss at Louisville on Sunday night. Xeyrius Williams (a transfer from Dayton) currently leads Akron with 16.3 points a game and 9.3 rebounds a game.
Through the first month of the season, Merrimack already leads the Northeast Conference in virtually all metrics, although they will not be eligible for the NCAA Tournament until 2023-24 since they are a first-year transitional team. If they continue to win at their current pace, there is a decent chance that the CIT may invite the Warriors to their postseason tournament come March. Merrimack has won three out of their last four games against D-1 competition; they have wins at UMass Lowell, a win against Jacksonville and at Hartford sandwiched around a loss at Providence. Juvaris Hayes averages 10.3 points a game and 5.8 assists a game.
