Prairie View A&M (6-9, 2-0) at Texas Southern (4-11, 1-1) – 8:30 PM EST
Today, the UTR Game of the Day throws a curveball and does not take you to a matchup like UNC-Greensboro and Furman, but rather one of the better rivalries in the SWAC in recent years. The Tigers of Texas Southern will play host to their travel partner – the Prairie View A&M Panthers. During their noncon season, Texas Southern did manage a win at Northern Kentucky and took a top-10 Oregon team to the wire before narrowly missing an opportunity to beat the Ducks in back-to-back seasons. The Tigers opened SWAC play with a win against Southern University but were upset at home by Alcorn State last Monday. Tyrik Armstrong leads the Tigers with 14.8 points a game.
While Texas Southern went to the NCAA Tournament four times in the last decade, it was actually Prairie View who won both the SWAC regular season and tournament crowns last season. The Panthers managed a pair of D1 wins in noncon play and had a close-but-no-cigar loss at California back in December. They opened up SWAC play with a sweep of Alcorn State and Southern at home last week. Devonte Patterson averages 14.3 points a game for Prairie View.
