Tonight’s UTR Game of the Day takes place at the Yum Center in Louisville – both teams are part of a multi-team event with Louisville. Both the Winthrop Eagles and UNC-Greensboro Spartans are expected to be NCAA Tournament contenders, and in the case of the Winthrop Eagles, they were slated to be part of the 2020 NCAA Tournament as the Big South champion until COVID-19 forced the cancellation of the Big Dance. The Eagles are again expected to win the league per the coaches and media; Big South freshman of the year DJ Young Jr. averaged just under 12 points a game last season.
UNC-Greensboro already started their season last Friday with a 77-70 win against Little Rock at the aforementioned Yum Center. Isaiah Miller led the Spartans with 24 points in 30 minutes of play. With 11 players returning from last season, UNC-G once again is poised to be a contender themselves to win the SoCon this season.
