Today’s UTR Game of the Day is the second game of a pivotal two-game series between the Hartford Hawks and the UMBC Retrievers. Austin Williams had 16 points and 13 rebounds to lead Hartford to a 70-63 victory yesterday; Marquette transfer Traci Carter also added 16 points, 6 assists and 5 steals for the Hawks. Hartford could improve to 3-3 away from home in America East play with a big series looming at home against Vermont next weekend.
UMBC coming into the weekend was 5-1 in America East play, but with yesterday’s loss, they are now 1-2 at home after an inexplicable split against last-place Binghamton two weeks ago. They are a perfect 4-0 away from home thanks to road sweeps at UAlbany and New Hampshire. Brandon Horvath has led the Retrievers with 15.5 points a game and 8.4 rebounds a game.
