Today’s UTR Game of the Day returns to the Back Range as the Miners of UTEP host the Islanders of TAMU-CC in a branch campus offshoot of the Texas-Texas A&M rivalry. The Islanders had no trouble beating Alcorn State in their last game; they won a 98-67 blowout thanks to a balanced scoring attack that saw five different players in double figures; Ross Williams led the way with 22 points off the bench.
The Miners close out a four-team multi-team event that also includes Alcorn State and Bakersfield; while TAMU-CC lost to Bakersfield, UTEP is coming off of a 1-point OT win against the Roadrunners. Shamar Givance hit 2 free throws with under two seconds remaining in OT for the winning margin. The Miners were flirting with disaster as Bakersfield hit three free throws at the end of regulation to force OT.
