Tonight’s UTR Game of the Day takes us to Birmingham, Alabama for the Conference USA opener for both the Charlotte 49ers and the UAB Blazers. Charlotte started the year 4-2 with a 2nd place finish in the Myrtle Beach Invitational that included a loss in the championship game to UMass. Since then, a “Miner miracle” has led to a 5-game winning streak that included a game-winning OT shot against city rival Davidson. Jackson Threadgill led the 49ers with 14 points in an 80-46 blowout win against Monmouth.
UAB has also began the season 9-2 that includes a pair of wins against South Florida and Georgia in the Sunshine Slam in Daytona Beach, Florida. Their only losses were in respectable fashion – they had a neutral-court loss against Toledo and a home loss against West Virginia. Jordan Walker had 25 points and 6 assists in only 22 minutes against Southern in their latest game – a 92-66 win for the Blazers.
