Tonight’s UTR Game of the Day features the SWAC opener for both Southern and Texas Southern. The Southern Jaguars’ highlight of the nonconference portion of the season was a 74-66 win at California; they also had a brief 2-game winning streak when that was followed up with a win against Loyola-Maryland. Bryson Etienne (a one-time Texas Southern player) leads the Jaguars with 12.1 points a game.

Texas Southern also comes into tonight’s game with 2 wins so far in the year against D1 foes. They also beat Arizona State at home back in November in what was part of the official SWAC-Pac 12 Legacy Series (note that the Southern win at Cal was not part of the official series). The Tigers begin a tough stretch where both Southern and Grambling visit Houston; Davon Barnes averages 14.6 points a game for TSU.
