The Hoops HD Selection Committee – Initial Selection Board

Today begins the 4 most exciting days of our website as the Hoops HD panelists meet tonight to begin the process of selecting who we feel should qualify for the 2023 NCAA Basketball Tournament. Each of our panelists submitted two lists to our committee chairman Chad Sherwood; the first list consisted of teams that we felt should qualify as an at-large NCAA Tournament team regardless of how they finish their conference tournaments. Panelists could vote for up to 36 teams; teams that were listed on all but 3 of our ballots (this was because we had over 10 people submit ballots) were added to our NCAA At-Large board. Teams that appeared on at least 3 ballots but did not get the necessary votes for inclusion were added to the Under Consideration board. The second list consisted of additional teams to add to the Under Consideration board; again, teams needed 3 votes to qualify for the Under Consideration board.

And here are our initial results:

On the first ballot, 29 teams qualified for the NCAA Tournament field to go along with the 14 other teams that are already automatic qualifiers. When our Committee meets tonight, our main focus will be adding 8 more teams to the At-Large board. Other spots will open up as teams currently on the At-Large board win their respective conference tournaments and earn automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament.

We will also unveil our Centenary and Stallings Award winners; they will remain on our board for the duration of our Selection Committee meetings (and will likely qualify for the 2023 AC8 Tournament).
