News, Notes, and Highlighted Games: Monday, Dec 4th

-There wasn’t nearly as much action yesterday as what we’d seen on every other day since pretty much the start of the season, but one thing that did happen is what may end up being the biggest upset of the year. Southern went into Mississippi State, who was ranked in the top 25 and deservedly so, and pulled off a STUNNING 60-59 upset. The game was pretty close throughout, but it never felt like Mississippi State was in any real danger of losing, and they had a double digit lead with less than 5mins to go. But then Southern went on a 12-0 run to close the game and pull off the upset.

-Tulane improved to 6-1 and won their first road game as they knocked off Fordham 89-81

-Clemson remains unbeaten and got another nice win as they went on the road to Pitt and won their ACC opener 79-70. I really like this Clemson team and wouldn’t be at all surprised if we saw them in the top 25 really soon.

-IOWA AT PURDUE (Big Ten). Purdue lost their conference opener at Northwestern, but should be able to bounce back at home today against an Iowa team that is decent, and perhaps can make the NCAA Tournament, but it’s unlikely they’re good enough to beat Purdue on the road.

-Arkansas State @ Alabama
-Furman @ Arkansas – Arkansas is coming off a nice home win against Duke and should be able to take care of Furman
