Under the Radar Game of the Day – Thursday, January 11th

UNC-Greensboro (11-4, 2-0) at Samford (13-2, 2-0) – 8:00 PM ET (ESPN+)

With Furman faltering this year compared to recent years in the Southern Conference, tonight’s matchup of UNC-G and Samford gives us the likely top 2 teams in the conference (outside of a surging Western Carolina team). UNC-Greensboro has started off league play with home wins against Furman and East Tennessee State, but the Spartans will now play their first SoCon road game tonight. Mikeal Brown-Jones averages 18.6 points a game and 7.8 rebounds per game for the Spartans.

Samford opened the season with a blowout loss at then-#1 Purdue and a 10-point loss at VCU, but the Bulldogs have since won 13 games in a row. I believe that may also be the longest active winning streak in the country with Top 25 teams finally dropping games like flies over the past week. Belmont and Texas Southern stand out the most along their nonconference wins, and the Bulldogs have beaten Chattanooga at home and the Citadel on the road. Achor Achor had 19 points in Samford’s 80-64 win at Citadel last weekend.
