News, Notes, and Highlighted Games: Saturday, Dec 28th

NEWS AND NOTES

-Houston won this year’s Diamond Head Classic by beating Washington in the championship game and picking up a desperately needed quality win away from home.  Houston’s profile suddenly looks a lot better than it did before Christmas.

-Evansville head coach Walter McCarty has been placed on administrative leave pending a Title IX investigation – assistant head coach Bennie Seltzer will serve as interim head coach in the absence of McCarty.

HIGHLIGHTED GAMES

-WISCONSIN AT TENNESSEE.  Wisconsin has been a rather big disappointment this year.  They’re just 6-5 with no real notable wins on their resume.  Tennessee is a very respectable 8-3 and will remain in good shape if they’re able to hold serve in this one.

-LOUISVILLE AT KENTUCKY.  Louisville is ranked #3 in the country, and they can validate that high ranking today if they’re able to knock off their rivals on the road.  Kentucky has lost two straight, but they’re starting to shoot the ball a little better and they played what was arguably their best game of the season so far in their last game where they lost to Ohio State.  A win in a game like this is what can really turn their season around.  It would certainly turn their mood around.  This is a bitter rivalry, so it means as much off paper as it does on paper.
