Tonight’s UTR Game of the Day kicks off 2021 with the Wagon Wheel rivalry between the Kent State Golden Flashes and the Akron Zips. Getting games in has been a challenge for both teams, and winning games against D1 competition has been even tougher for Akron so far. Thankfully, the one win came at home against Ohio by a 90-70 margin just prior to Christmas Day. Loren Jackson has averaged 24 points a game in Akron’s four games thus far.
Kent State has had three games against D1 competition so far with mixed results – their first D1 game was a loss at Virginia. They quickly bounced back with back-to-back victories against Horizon foes Detroit Mercy and NKU. Both Michael Nuge (17.8 PPG) and Danny Pippen (17.0 PPG) have led Kent thus far this year.
